Our story starts with 2 orphaned show wethers, Dudley and Studley. Our daughter Kelley joined FFA as a freshman in high school several years ago and became interested in raising and showing boer wethers. The first year we both cried when he went to the sell after the last show, but the next year she did it again. Her junior year we bought twins that were orphaned and bottle raised them. At the time we lived in town and the goats stayed at the AG center, but at the end of the school year they would have to leave. So to be able to keep these very big, very sweet goats we had become very attached to we bought a place outside of town with seven acres and moved. Crazy huh.
Then for my B-Day, I asked for a bred doe so we could have a baby. Maggie was my present and March 16 2006 she had Rylie, our buck.
A couple of months later, Rick and I took Rylie to the vet to be wethered and Rick was trying to talk me out of it, you see Rylie is a very good looking boy, solid red, nice muscle and sweet as well. I told Rick we had no need for a buck because the only doe we have is his mama. He said I could get a few more does.... and that is the beginning of Happy Goats Ranch although we didn't know it at the time.
So Rylie didn’t get wethered and I must admit it was a good decision by Rick.
We bought Stella and Roxie and the next year we had Rylies first kids. Then we added Kali and Misha in Sept 2007 and Blondie in Oct 2007.
We have 9 kids this spring. As you can see, we are a small operation so quality, healthy kids are our goal. I attended every kidding and there’s a reason our name is Happy Goats, our goats are happy, healthy and friendly.
